Details
Low yields & astute viticulture combined with Nebbiolo’s late ripening make for grapes of wonderful balance in this iconic vineyard in the Pyrenees. The resultant wines are deep, concentrated & complex with firm tannins whilst still being very approachable in their youth, and this Nebbiolo is certainly that - filled with bright red fruit and a swathe of tannin on the tail.
Two music tragics - Nathan Reeves and David Chatfield - decide that their industry of choice is letting them down (or perhaps the other way around) and decide to follow a nobler path....a more vinous path. Nathan worked vintages in Margaret River and California, then settled in the Yarra Valley. David, a former label manager and promoter, did his formative work at Yarra icons Oakridge and Giant Steps, along the way bumping into Nathan a few times. They bonded over music but things really got serious when they started discussing making their own wine one day. Come 2012 and the mad idea of Out of Step Wine Co is born. Turns out its not so mad after all. Their approach is simple, although the wines themselves are anything but. Making small batches from single sites selected for their ability to yield grapes of outstanding quality, & eschewing a lot of conventional techniques that seem to make for rather pedestrian booze, they believe it is of critical importance that what they produce genuinely communicates the variety, vineyard, season and combination thereof, as well as being delicious. As the guys say themselves, to be great it must be real, expressive & honest. They seem to have the balance pretty bang on so far....

Pairing guide
Nebbiolo wines are all about balance. They match delicacy with robustness, and bring plenty of tannin to the table while remaining highly drinkable and elegant. When it comes to food pairing, it’s best to keep this balance in mind, and go for dishes which are at once mellow and flavoursome - making this wine an absolute winner when it comes to finer cuts of steak like ribeye or filet mignon. We love this wine with charcuterie (especially Italian salamis and prosciuttos), but it goes every bit as well with whole roast chicken and duck, strong blue cheeses, brie, spicy vegetarian curries, and roast root vegetables like beetroot and sweet potato.

Wine region

Pyrenees, Australia
The Pyrenees wine region is located in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is known for producing a range of high-quality red and white wines, particularly Shiraz and Chardonnay. The region is named after the Pyrenees mountain range, which forms its eastern boundary. The wine-growing area extends from the town of Avoca in the north to Moonambel in the south and is situated at an altitude of between 200 and 600 meters above sea level. The region's cool climate and diverse soil types are well-suited to grape growing and contribute to the unique character of the wines produced here.
Cool fact: the region is home to the "Big Red," a life-sized sculpture of a red grape that serves as a popular photo spot for visitors to the area, so if you find yourself in the area, be sure to check it out!
