Details
The Even Hand is a perfect example of balanced, Aussie GSM with plenty of upfront, ripe fruit and layers of spice and warming tannin. On the fairness spectrum the Even Hand has fruit weight at play from the Grenache, spice and pepper from the Shiraz and tannin and structure from the Mataro. Fair’s fair!

One of the truly great things about Aussie winemakers is their special ability to take inspiration from the Old World, and then to weave something entirely new from that initial spark, until the resulting wine couldn't possibly have come from anywhere else on earth. Lately, there's been a lot of buzz surrounding the wines of Old Jarvie, a relatively new name on the McLaren Vale wine scene, but one which is grabbing people's attention with some incredibly good wines and a savvy, striking design team who've carved a hip, contemporary niche for themselves on the market. Old Jarvie was the nickname of the First Earl of St. Vincent – Admiral John Jervis – whose zest for discovery provides inspiration for vintner Matthew Flinders and his time. There's something quite exploratory about these wines, too; they've gained a great reputation for experimenting with slightly unusual grape varietals for McLaren Vale, including plenty of lesser-known Spanish grapes, which have taken on exciting new characters in the Aussie terroir.

Pairing guide
GSM is one of those timeless red blends that never fails to excite. This stunning release from fan-favourites Old Jarvie ticks all the right boxes, and will pair very happily with grilled red meats, fattier cuts like sirloin and ribeye, and all kinds of mushroom and mature cheddar dishes. Grilled red capsicums, ragu-stuffed tomatoes, bolognese and lasagna are also fine choices, and it’s also excellent with roast duck, goose and chicken.
