Details
A curious, intense wine, that demands your attention. Some medicinal notes on the nose, along with pomegranate and redcurrant, the palate is nonetheless glorious and fine, long and detailed. The fruit is dense and yet the wine is light. Those savoury, bitter notes hang around and remind you that this wine is not to be trifled with.
Ochota Barrels is an idyllic winery located in the Basket Range subregion of the Adelaide Hills. Established by Taras and Amber Ochota after a former life of punk rock, surfing and global travel and work for wineries in Italy, the USA and even Sweden. Star crossed lovers, they made a decision to build a business together, to look after a vineyard and to make a home in the Adelaide Hills. After years of making some of the most sought-after wines in Australia, Taras sadly passed away in 2020. His infinite kindness, warm-heartedness and lack of pretension were a breath of fresh air in the local wine scene, and one that will be impossible to replace. For the 2021 vintage, his wife Amber worked with their long time assistant winemaker Louis Schofield to craft wines that bear the stamp of his toil.

Pairing guide
Ah, Gamay - let us count the ways we you adore you! This beautiful and versatile wine immediately puts you in mind of a sweet little roadside bistro, complete with chequered tablecloths and slightly rude waiters… and that’s not a bad place to start when it comes to food pairing. Herby sausages, rich stews like cassoulet or bourguignon, duck breast, coq au vin - all would be great pairings here. It’s also going to match very well with fruity tagines, tarragon chicken, stroganoff, and grilled pork chop. Delicious!

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
