Details
Crafted from an isolated vineyard high up in the Alpine Valleys of northern Victoria, this beautifully delicate and refined Chardonnay is a simply artful wine. It smells of fresh picked white peaches, creamed apples and just a little banana, the style oh so delicate and refined that you could pick it as from a frosty vineyard in northern France rather than NE Victoria. So pure, so good!

The Aussie wine industry is in a fascinating place right now. Up and down the length and breadth of this massive and varied country, we’re seeing more and more wineries establishing themselves with impressive ambitions of rewriting the winemaking rulebook. How? By kicking back against the status quo and using interesting methods and a stripped-back approach while on the quest for the very utmost in flavour and distinction. Firmly in this category of innovative and nature-driven wineries sits the wonderful Nomad’s Garden, an operation set up a few years back in the Alpine mountains of Northeast Victoria, bringing out a seriously awe-inspiring set of wines. Ben Dahlenburg at Nomad’s Garden is determined not to take any shortcuts and never settle for second best, with a mission to stick to terroir-based credentials at every step. It might not make for an easy working life. Still, it means that these wines are handmade beauties of real character, produced from single vineyards, fermented with wild indigenous yeasts, and bottled on-site to ensure maximum control over quality and the maximum expression of what makes this corner of the world so special. If you’re looking for interesting, unique, and characterful wines made from lesser-seen grape varieties, Nomad's Garden is the answer!

Pairing guide
The winemakers at Nomad’s Garden are showcasing their skills aplenty with this stylish Chardonnay, which really highlights the quality of their North East Victoria terroir and natural methodology. It’s a beautiful wine for pairing with richer chicken and pork dishes - creamy pasta sauces, chops and thighs with a coconut sauce, or a korma or similar curry - as well as with seafood recipes calling for Moreton Bay bugs, king prawns and scallops. Barra, snapper and kingfish are all great matches with this one, as are green salads, guacamole dishes, and vegetable risotto.

Alpine Valleys, Australia
In north-east Victoria, neighbouring Beechworth and King Valley regions is scenic Alpine Valley. It is quite the tourist destination with year-round resort activities at Mt Hotham, Mt Buffalo and Falls Creek. The main varieties here are Prosecco, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the cooler lofty areas, while Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon perform in the warmer lower elevations. Vineyard elevations here range between 155m-320m, but the highest point in the region is 1972m above sea level for scale! Alpine Valley is most certainly continental, with a favourably big difference between day and night temperatures. Careful site selection is critical here, vignerons favour slopey hillsides with optimum airflow to minimise the threat of frost in Spring - during flowering and Autumn frost around harvest season.
