Details
A classic orange rim on this Nebbiolo with a deep core of colour and fruit. Expressive nose, with lots of dried herbs, anise and dried flowers. A deep core of dark cherry layered with a classically Australian eucalypt note but there is an edgier, Italian like personality. Savoury emerges on the palate, it's quite a powerful Nebbiolo, the fruit is simply delicious and a little tart, but reigned in by its varietal drying and sturdy tannins and refreshingly high acidity. A demanding wine but a curious example of Australian Nebbiolo.
Monkey Brains and Mutual Promise are two brands from one clever 'wine guy'. An ex-restaurateur, turned wine collector, wine distributor and now wine producer, Evan Milne started 'Mutual Promise' having access to great fruit from a family in the King Valley - Nebbiolo and Gamay from the Koombahla vineyard in Victoria’s North East. Having friends in the industry to help you out when you're the busiest man alive is an asset, and being too busy never stopped Evan creating his own wines. A Barolo-lover to the core, Nebbiolo is one grape variety that lights up his world, and you can tell. His Nebbiolo is a fragrant dream of the classic Nebb thing of tar & roses underpinned by a regional eucalypt that sings of provenance and would make anyone abroad a little homesick. This wine was made with the help of Adrian Rodda and Mark Walpole, both incredible winemakers in their own right. This wine is from a small parcel of Nebbiolo fruit from the Darling family. The fruit was guided through ferment at Beechworth’s Mayday Hills lunatic asylum.

Pairing guide
When it comes to timeless red wine styles, they don’t come much more classy and delicious than a top-notch Nebbiolo. This gorgeous red from Mutual Promise really delivers when it comes to depth of flavour, and it opens a world of possibilities for seriously satisfying food pairing options. This wine is going to pair perfectly with fattier cuts of meat - think sirloin steaks, tenderloin, braised pork chops, and lamb shanks. It’s also a winner with roast chicken and duck, and will pair beautifully with bean stews, mushroom risottos, anything with plenty of truffle, dishes which put parmesan in the spotlight. Yum!
