Details
A relatively full bodied style of pinot, with depth of fruit and a chewy, silky palate. Flavours are skewed toward black cherry and plum, with pretty floral aromatics of violet and rose complemented by some dried herbs and suave tannins. There's a touch of smokiness which is very appealing, and the wine has a lovely long finish. Delicious.

Located at the foothills of Mt Moriac near Geelong, this winery has slowly but surely been building a quietly impressive reputation for some of the regions best value wines. They produce elegant cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Shiraz, but the Pinot is the one that seems to get all the attention! The vineyard is named Kurabana, and was planted in 1987. As well as the aforementioned grapes, there is also some Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viognier. Winemaking has, until quite recently, been handled by Kelly Pearson, who departed after the 2020 vintage to focus on her own wine label, Ladygarden. Her deft touch resulted in many vintages of refined wines that have a focus on purity of fruit as well as depth of flavour. The wines continue to impress, and this is definitely a name to watch.

Pairing guide
Mount Moriac have done a sterling job of expressing all the elegance of their superb Pinot Noir grapes in this wine, capturing that gorgeous silkiness and wide array of dark fruit flavours. This wine is a winner when paired with duck leg dishes, fattier cuts of lamb, beef, and pork, and with root vegetable preparations. However, you’ll get equally stunning results with tomato and olive-based pasta sauces, bean stews, sticky ribs, and classic French bistro fare like beef tartare and seared tuna steak.
