Details
A rich purple colour in the glass leads into a riotous mouthful of flavour - sweet berries, green herbs and charcoal all jostle for your attention. There's blackcurrant, overripe plum and plenty of mint and capsicum. It's rich and round, with gritty tannin giving the wine some shape. Fun and flavour-filled.

Origin: It’s believed that the first wines made were in the Médoc region, in the west of France. Mainly Grown In: France leads the way here, with Bordeaux the big one. Also California, South Australia, central and northern Italy, plus Argentina. Key Facts: Cabernet Sauvignon is truly a globetrotter. Having its home in Bordeaux certainly helped its rapid expansion, as the Bordelaise (those coming from Bordeaux) are excellent marketers of their own product! Now found in almost all wine-producing countries of the world, Cab Sav is traditionally full-bodied, loaded with plenty of dark fruit (think blueberry and blackberry) and backed up by a zing of herbal/grassy kind of flavours. It’s also known for its strong backbone of tannin – that furry, drying sensation you sometimes get with red wines. Cabernet has plenty of it but is still a smooth talker regardless. Fun Fact: Centuries ago, a romantic vine affair occurred between Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. The two crossed — as vines like to do when they really love another vine — and made Cabernet Sauvignon.

Pairing guide
Powerfully punchy and boldly beautiful, this Cabernet Sauvignon is the perfect pairing for plenty of exciting gastronomic delights. As with most wines of this variety, it’s probably best suited to a juicy steak and a pile of chips, but it makes for a fine barbecue bottle and will also pair very well with a beef (or veggie) wellington, garlicky braised greens, and elegant classics like dauphinoise potatoes. Wild mushrooms, truffles with chicken and pork, strong cheeses and game meats are also very welcome!

Fleurieu Peninsula, Australia
The Fleurieu Peninsula wine region is located in South Australia. The region is known for its relatively cool climate wines (compared to other parts of South Australia), Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay do particularly well in these parts. The area has a long history of winemaking, with the first vines being planted in the 1850s. Today, the region is home to a number of small, family-owned wineries that produce high-quality wines using traditional winemaking techniques. The cool climate and mineral-rich soils of the region give the wines their distinctive character and flavour. Perhaps the most famous of all of the Fleurieu Peninsula's sub-regions is McLaren Vale in the northwest, home to some of the finest red wines in Australia.
