Details
Wow, this is a serious Sangiovese and very perfumed. Concentrated juicy fruits of ripe cherry, plums and a sweet lick of red liquorice. There's a lot happening, with a drying, iron earth and graphite note woven in and a touch of dried oregano to finish. Generous in its fuller body, but all kept in shape with good acidity.

Frank Mitolo's influences in the world of wine stem from his Italian grandfather, Bruno - a lifelong viticulturist (wine grower and vineyard expert) who arrived in Australia with farming in his blood, at the tender age of 14. All the way from Abruzzo, Bruno brought with him an ethos from his homeland “forte e gentile” or strong and gentle, forging his new life in South Australia's McLaren Vale and established Mitolo Family Farms. This became a 'world class' fresh produce business, and his love for wine continued through to his son, who not only loved wine, but passed this love to his son - Frank. Frank made small batch wines for years before a chance meeting with famed winemaker Ben Glaetzer, which saw a long lunch, and Frank's passion evolve into a partnership with Ben. Fast forward to today, and the recognisable label of Mitolo is one of familiarity and quality - a fully fledged and successful commercial wine business. The dream was only ever to create the ultimate expression of McLaren Vale’s terroir, with a singular vision – to make wines inspired by the great Italian producers that they loved to drink.

Pairing guide
A good Sangiovese has to be one of the most evocative wine styles out there - from the very first sip of this beautiful Mitolo bottle, you’re transported to the rolling hillscapes of northern Italy, surrounded by crumbling castles, endless vineyards, and gingham tablecloths piled high with delicious food. It’s a wine that is best served alongside rustic Italian dishes; a deeply savoury puttanesca, a fiery arrabbiata, or a chicken risotto will work brilliantly. Roast red capsicums, stuffed tomatoes, and beef mince and passata combos will also hit the spot.
