Details
Argentine Syrah is often overlooked in favour of Malbec, but this makes a compelling case. The high altitude of the vines lends the resultant wines a remarkable acidity, despite the richness of fruit. The 2017 Uvas from Mi Terruno is beautifully scented, with rose, black cherry and roast plum. There's a tarry element there as well, mixed with dark soil and pepper. Lots of dark, meaty tones in the wine should give you a clue as to what to eat with this! Despite that, it's versatile and elegant, with plenty of charm.

Nestled amongst the San Roque district of the Maipu province in Argentina, the winery has been run by this proud Mendozan family since 1978. Today winemaker Maria Balgorria and her brother Gabriel continue the family mission to expose the high-quality wines of Argentina to the globe, and boy are they succeeding. Their name Mi Terruno translates to “my terroir” and was chosen to reflect the unique place of origin of their land and the people who work there.

Pairing guide
For hundreds of years, the Syrah grape has been paired with the kind of rustic, hearty dishes you look forward to most after a long day of work. It has risen in prominence as a grape alongside some of the great gastronomic traditions the world has ever seen… and today, it remains one of our favourite food-pairing wines. Vegetarians can enjoy this wine with dishes featuring aubergines and mushrooms - but really, this is a meat-lover’s wine through and through. It’s happiest with lamb, pork and beef, and loves a bit of spice and touch of sweetness, as you’ll find in dishes like pulled pork, barbecue ribs, sticky beef, and Cantonese and Szechuan meaty treats, too.
