Details
The new Mercer Montepulciano (Monte to you!) starts the party with a gorgeous bright purple hue and continues with aromas of blueberry, boysenberry - basically all the berries - with a little savoury leaf note and vanilla richness. The palate is juicy, with a tell-tale Italian tannin grip, and great acidity making it easy to drink with or without food. Yummo (we think that’s Italian for yum?)!
Forget traditional varieties - think new, sustainable, and vegan-friendly varietal wines from all over NSW. The idea of Mercer Wines had been fermenting for over twenty years, starting when Aaron had begun selling wine and scrubbing tanks in the Hunter Valley, and learning from local legends, he realised the joy of making wine and has continued his education all over the world. Aaron is one of NSW’s most awarded and versatile winemakers. With extensive experience working in France, Germany, Canada and California, he is best known for his positive impact - and flair for accuracy and creativity - with organic and preservative-free winemaking in Australia. Aaron is now settled back in the Hunter Valley with his wife, Alison and their family. They both knew that starting a brand and business would create flexibility in their lives to enjoy the things they love most; family, travel and wine. Today Mercer Wines has come full circle in providing unique, sustainable wines that are fun, fruit-driven and delicious for any occasion! Pairing guide
Montepulciano is renowned across the world for good reason; these deeply involving, utterly delicious red wines perfectly encapsulate all that is wonderful about the finest Italian produce. When it comes to food pairing, these wines deserve to be matched with hearty, homemade fare - we’re talking slow-roasted red meats, barbecued chops and ribs, smoked charcuterie and homemade burgers grilled over the barbecue. Lamb gyros, roast poultry, wild mushrooms and truffle dishes will also hit the high notes in style.
