Details
Oof there is plenty going on in this seriously impressive organic WA Pinot Noir. It's spicy and a little meaty, with this really interesting dark cherry mulchy floral wildness to it. After the initial theatrics, this Pinot settles into its powerful rhythm, with all the layers of soft edges red and black fruits that feel so substantial compared to many other similar Pinot Noir releases.
Marron Creek Wine Co. is the work of Brian Kent, who is also the chief winemaker at Western Australian star winery Frankland Estate. The Marron Creek project is centred around a forgotten jewel - a certified organic vineyard once known as the Old Kent River in the very south of the Frankland River region. Not only does the property boast forty-year-old vines, but they're surrounded by a series of ponds filled with local West Australian marron, hence the name. Who wouldn't want an old vineyard with ponds full of amazing local crayfish? The wines are impressive, too, with a trio of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz/Syrah that look cool, spicy and yet rather powerful. Not that we'd expect anything else for a winemaker who already produces some of WA's most famous wines under the Frankland Estate label!

Pairing guide
Given that this red has a bit more earthen charm and spice to it, the pairing choices really do match up with spice and some exotic choices. It’s going to go exceptionally well with lamb and duck dishes, especially when given a fruity twist with some apricots or plums, and you’ll also find great results with richer fish dishes, especially those of roasted salmon, seared tuna or shark and swordfish. Vegetarians will love this wine with portabello mushrooms, tahini and falafel, and anything featuring cannellini beans or similar.

Great Southern, Australia
Get ready to swirl, sniff, and sip your way through Western Australia's largest wine region - the Great Southern! Stretching from the coastal town of Albany to the scenic hamlet of Denmark to the south, this vast region is known for its world-class wine. Within the Great Southern, you will find five sub-regions, with Frankland River and Mount Barker being arguably the most noteworthy. But the Great Southern isn't just about the grapes - the area's family-owned wineries are passionate about their craft, using traditional techniques and the region's mineral-rich soils to create wine bursting with flavour. It is hard to pigeonhole the region in terms of grape varieties, Riesling does particularly well here as does Pinot Noir and Shiraz amongst others.
