Details
This explosively aromatic Pét Nat comes from a single vineyard of Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit has a little bit of skin contact to bring on those tropical aromatics - think pineapple and peach - and this mixes well with the citrus and herb punch that Sauvignon gives. Bright, zesty and lightly fizzy, this is a party.

Young Sam Leyshon - a name that, if you don’t already know from the Aussie wine scene, you’ll soon be more than familiar with - spent years roaming the Australian outback, and building a profound relationship with the land. However, all walkabouts must come to an end at some point, and he returned home to Canberra and landed a job at Clonakilla, where he first cut his teeth on the local wine scene. With the wealth of experience he picked up there, it wasn’t long before his ambition led him to move on to greater things, and the next few years saw him taking over his family winery at Yass, just an hour north of Canberra. The rest, as they say, is history. Sam quickly revitalised the family operation with a dynamic, exciting, and thoroughly up-to-date set of approaches, seeking out his winemaking groove along the way. Mallaluka is the culmination of all his passions; these are wines which celebrate minimal intervention, and intended for the dining table, the family barbecue, and the kind of bars he’d want to drink at, offering great value with characteristics that punch well above their weight. Today, Mallaluka is a veritable rising star of the Canberra district, showcasing the unique features of the terroir, and what can happen when great land meets a determined and driven spirit.

Pairing guide
We absolutely loved this gorgeous Pét Nat from Mallaluka, which really encapsulates the amazing terroir on which the grapes were grown. With its elegant sparkle and mountains of character, this wine calls out to be paired with deep-fried chicken or vegetable dishes, and will also work well with salt cod cakes, brown crab dishes, or tarts made from green vegetables or white crab meat. It’s also great with spicy food, and will pair nicely with Thai fish cakes, or Indian pakoras.

Wine region
Canberra District, Australia
Canberra wine district is located in and around the Australian Capital Territory. Apart from one producer in ACT, this wine district is commonly associated with NSW regions Murrumbateman, Bungendore and Collector. Being inland, the region has an extreme continental climate, with very warm days and typically cold dry nights even in Summer. Riesling thrives in this climate, the stand-out variety among the crisp whites available here. But it's the cool-climate Shiraz that steals the show. Actually, Canberra wine district has a well-established reputation for one of Australia’s best Shiraz – notably Clonakilla’s Shiraz Viognier. The wine region is a bit of a best-kept secret, if only Sydneysiders knew it to be equidistant to Hunter Valley! Canberra wine bars and restaurants here have generated quite the buzz in recent years, and with vineyards just a 30 minute drive from Canberra city; why not enjoy both in a day? Halliday hitters include Clonakilla, Helm (Riesling), and Lark Hill (Gruner Veltliner), but don’t miss out on the envelope-pushing producers such as Ravensworth, Mallaluka, and Mada Wines! Don’t sleep on the Canberra Wine District!
