Details
Sangiovese loves the warm, dry autumns in the NSW Hilltops, and you can see it in this generous, but still medium-bodied, red. Packed with wild red fruits and a savoury finish, it has loads of the savoury flavour that 'Sangio' is famous for, with that fine sandpapery tannins that just feel so right and good.
What an absolute delight it is to introduce M + B Wines, the new label for Marcelle Freeman, who has banded with a group of wine friends (including a famous mystery winemaker) to deliver a range of distinctive and delicious drinks that we're mighty proud to now have at Good Pair Days. Marcelle runs the Freeman Vineyards property with her legendary winemaker father Brian (who headed up the Charles Sturt University wine department for a decade) in the NSW Hilltops near Young. The large mosaic of vineyards that the Freeman family controls includes some of the most important plantings of alternative grape varieties in Australia, including the country's only plantings of two legendary Italian varieties, Rondinella and Corvina. Oh yes, the Freemans are a big deal in the grape world, and this new project label from Marcelle delivers all the charisma and energy that we'd expect!

Pairing guide
Showcasing the bright savouriness that so many Hilltops reds deliver, we’d recommend matching this beautiful red wine with tomato-based dishes - everything from a spaghetti bolognese to a lamb tagine, lasagne, moussaka, puttanesca and all'arrabbiata will hit the spot - or with dishes or roast pork (including a Christmas ham!), rack of lamb, or warm duck salad. Eggplant parmigiana, tomato and basil soup, and Tuscan bean stews and soups will also be excellent here.
