Details
This is the first Sauv Blanc made by the team at Lubanzi, and it stands out from the crowd with its aromatic intensity and juiciness. The secret sauce? It's actually got a mate along for the ride - a dash of Colombard that has seen some skin contact. This gives the wine lifted tropical fruits and a real juiciness. Textural, fruity and fun!

Exchange students Charlie Brain & Walker Brown fell in love with South Africa on a backpacking trip in 2014. During this time a wandering dog the locals called “Lubanzi” matched them stride for stride over the course of a six-day, hundred-mile trek. On the final night of their trip, Lubanzi disappeared after his job was done guiding Charlie and Walker to their destination. The pair returned to South Africa in 2016 with the vision of creating top-notch wines produced and distributed by sustainable farming practices, and a socially conscious mindset. The Lubanzi wines are all certified Fair-Trade with 50% of all production profits going to the Pebbles Project - a non-profit initiative that helps to educate and support families that work directly on South African vineyards. Charlie and Walker have a clear goal to bring people and wine together under the banner of social sustainability and responsibility. They are not alone in this part of the world, as we are increasingly seeing more and more socially sustainable projects across the country, this is something that we are always keen to support here at Good Pair Days. Oh, and their wines are pretty delicious too!

Pairing guide
When it comes to food-friendly white wine styles, no other variety really holds a candle to Sauvignon Blanc. The team at Lubanzi winery has struck gold with this beautifully crisp and bright release, and it’s every bit as versatile as a good Sauvignon should be. We loved it with pasta dishes featuring green vegetables and salty additions like anchovies, but it’s every bit as good with a goat’s cheese salad, chicken with mozzarella and pesto, a Thai green curry or a Chinese chilli fish dish. Ceviche, pork tacos with coriander and lime, asparagus with prosciutto… the list just goes on and on!

This region is known for its diverse terroir, which allows for the production of a wide variety of wine styles, from crisp and elegant white wines to bold and full-bodied reds. Some of the most popular grape varieties in this region include Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Pinotage, a uniquely South African varietal. The region also benefits from a Mediterranean-like climate, with long, warm summers and mild winters, and is home to many award-winning wineries and vineyards that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
