Details
A wonderfully complex and yet fresh wine, utilising Pinot Gris and then fermenting on skins to achieve depth of flavour, texture and interest. Nectarine and pear, blood orange and clove. Lots to love here - wide, deep and succulent. A bitter twang on the finish keeps you coming back for more.
Erin Frances Pooley (thus the name) is one of Australia's most exciting young winemakers, although no one really knows that yet! Born and raised in Sydney, she graduated from Charles Sturt University with a degree in Wine Science before moving to California and began making wine in 2007. Come the year that was 2020, she returned home with a desire to start afresh and make wines from her own backyard. So whilst we're thrilled to be able to offer her American wines, we also can't wait to see what she'll produce from the local terroir! Erin has a keen wine mind, coupled with a global palate. Together, these form a powerful weapon that she applies with laser focus in finding unsung fruit sources and coaxing all the nuance and detail from them. Her American wines come from across California - from deep in the Mayacamas Mountains, to inland near Sacramento. The complexity she manages to imbue into her wines is wonderful, and they have that rare delight of changing slowly over time in the glass and once the bottle has been opened. These are wines to drink slowly and savour. They are textural and complex, and yet offer plenty of upfront enjoyment. The combination of fruit, oak and soil is wonderful to behold, and we can't wait to see what Erin does next!

Pairing guide
Little Frances has done a fantastic job of capturing the zeitgeist with this characterful orange wine, which really delights the palate with a brightness and depth that lend itself perfectly to some seriously tasty food. Orange wine loves being paired with nutty grains and dishes of chickpeas, bulgur wheat, quinoa, and lentils, and loves Moroccan and Middle Eastern flavours. Olives, charcuterie, and autumnal veggies like squash and pumpkin tend to work very well too, and cheeses like feta and aged gouda will also hit the spot.
