Details
A salty, pungent expression of Viognier, whereas most play in the floral/fruity realm. You can't escape the aromatics, but this is a mix of green mango, fresh green herbs, salt, pepper and crushed rocks. Soft and relatively low acid, the saline edge keeps things fresh. An intriguing wine.
From great challenges arise great results. Latta Vino is a pretty good example of this, being a winery born of an unusual history and with a dedication to producing characterful and unexpected wines. Owen Latta is the son of Norman Latta, the man who established Eastern Peake winery (which may well be the best Australian winery you've never heard of, but that's another story), but due to an accident had to give up winemaking when Owen was still a teenager. Young Owen didn't shirk, and threw himself into the task. Fast forward to today, and Owen is one of the most respected young winemakers in Australia, his family winery better than ever, and his own label Latta at the cutting edge of Australian wine. His vision was a particular one: to work with the diverse and occasionally difficult soils of Coghills Creek and surrounds to produce wines which he would be proud to be associated with his land. Small yields, challenging seasons and a range of natural, sustainable methods were the way forward, and before long, the wines began to speak for themselves. They now sit proudly at the summit of Victorian wines - fresh, fragrant and complex.

Pairing guide
We make no secret of our devotion to Viognier, and this bottle from Latta ticks all the right boxes when it comes to those elegant and highly distinctive flavours and aromas we love so very, very much. This luxurious white wine is best served alongside grilled or seared seafood like scallops, prawns, lobster and crab - especially if elevated with southeast Asian flavours such as coriander, ginger, chilli and lime. However, it’s also going to be delicious with roast poultry, silky white fish fillets in a cream sauce, richer pasta recipes such as a carbonara or fettuccine alfredo, pork chops with gremolata, and all kinds of fragrant rice dishes. Yum!

Wine region

Pyrenees, Australia
The Pyrenees wine region is located in the state of Victoria in Australia. It is known for producing a range of high-quality red and white wines, particularly Shiraz and Chardonnay. The region is named after the Pyrenees mountain range, which forms its eastern boundary. The wine-growing area extends from the town of Avoca in the north to Moonambel in the south and is situated at an altitude of between 200 and 600 meters above sea level. The region's cool climate and diverse soil types are well-suited to grape growing and contribute to the unique character of the wines produced here.
Cool fact: the region is home to the "Big Red," a life-sized sculpture of a red grape that serves as a popular photo spot for visitors to the area, so if you find yourself in the area, be sure to check it out!
