Details
A ‘Pirate Blend’ of sun-loving Portuguese varieties Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cao and Souzao, this wine is barrel-full of ripe blueberries, blackcurrants and blackberries, and is perfumed and pretty with lilacs and violet floral aromas. It’s super juicy, super intense and super fruit-driven. Oak kicks in mid-palate but is in beautiful balance, and then you’re rewarded with a lovely spice and white pepper finish. Arrrrrr, you beauty.

Nic Peterkin’s L.A.S. Vino was created in 2013 and today it’s one of Margaret River’s keenest of cutting-edge labels with a focus on sustainable and mostly organic viticulture. The wines are often built around experimental techniques, but Peterkin does so without alienating, and the results are as delicious as they are thoughtful. “L.A.S. stands for Luck Art Science: The LUCK of the weather, the wind and the water during vintage. The ART of creating wine from, essentially, water and sunlight. They say you need to know the rules to break them, we can thank SCIENCE for giving us an excuse to break the rules and create something different and interesting” – Nic Peterkin Nic takes a minimal-intervention approach to making small batches of wine that are ‘a little bit different’, either in the way they’re made or the grapes that are used. His wines are carefully crafted to evoke emotion: new flavours from alternative varieties, classics impeccably crafted and distinctive, wax-topped bottles that stand out from the crowd.

Pairing guide
Made from a dizzying array of beautiful red grapes grown along the Margaret River, this stunning blend from L.A.S. Vino is a joy to behold. It’s remarkably versatile when it comes to food pairing too - it’s going to be fantastic with barbecued meats and Mediterranean vegetables, all kinds of stews and casseroles of beef, lamb, pork, duck, and eggplant or lentils, and Moroccan lamb tagines heaving with spices and chunks of tender lamb or squash. Homemade burgers, sausages, and dishes made from root vegetables will also bring great results.
