Details
‘Isole’ 2024 is a bright, coastal-feeling white that marries citrus snap with a quietly layered, savoury edge. Fiano brings lemon curd, pear skin and a gentle almond note; Vermentino adds salty lift, white peach and fresh fennel. A small dash of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains perfumes the wine with jasmine and grapey freshness rather than overt sweetness. The palate is brisk and textural, mouth-watering acidity carrying flavours of mandarin, green melon and salt-preserved lemon. Finishes clean, lightly bitter and wonderfully refreshing.

L’Anima Wines is Michael Williams’ small-batch love letter to McLaren Vale - made not as a side project for volume, but as a focused space for ideas. Michael’s winemaking path has taken him from the Adelaide Hills to Tuscany and Tasmania, and back to the Vale, building a toolkit that balances intuition with precision (he’s formerly winemaker at Bondar, another McLaren Vale bright light). Under the L’Anima banner, he leans into varieties that genuinely fit the local climate - grapes that hold shape in heat, ask less of the vineyard, and deliver character without heavy-handed winemaking. The style is contemporary yet grounded: bright, savoury, and textural, with thoughtful blending where it adds dimension rather than distraction. Wines are handled with a light touch, so you get clarity of fruit, a sense of site, and that elusive, appetising “pull” that makes a bottle disappear at the table.

Pairing guide
Think seafood, olive oil, herbs, and anything kissed with lemon. ‘Isole’ is a natural partner for oysters, grilled prawns, calamari with aioli, or snapper with fennel and orange. Its saline edge and gentle phenolic grip make it ideal for richer fish too - sardines on toast, smoked trout pâté, or tuna crudo with capers and good oil. The aromatic Muscat “lift” also plays beautifully with green, fragrant flavours: Vietnamese rice paper rolls, Thai pomelo salad, or chicken with lemongrass and ginger. For vegetarian options, try zucchini fritters with yoghurt, artichokes, or a shaved fennel and pear salad with almonds. Soft cheeses shine, while the wine’s zesty finish keeps the palate hungry for the next bite.
