Details
Dolcetto, or the ‘little sweet one’ (translated from Italian), certainly lives up to its reputation here. Low tannin and high fruitiness - it's supple, red berried, juicy and medium bodied. Definitely one of those wines you can pop in the fridge for half an hour before drinking, it's all slurpy, tangy fun.
La Prova was set up in the Adelaide Hills by winemaker Sam Scott back in 2008, as the culmination of two decades spent working both internationally and in South Australia. There is a real focus on Italian grape varieties planted in Australia, and examples like Barbera and Sangiovese really take the lead. La Prova is a grand experiment that brings together traditional Italian varieties and ancient Australian soils. The pairing creates wines that are ready for the future from grapes that use less water and withstand warming conditions, supporting a production philosophy that is inherently sustainable, and some would say necessary, to ensure the future of Australian wine. Fruit is sourced from vineyards best suited to each variety; largely from the varied topography of the Adelaide Hills, but from farther afield too including Prosecco from King Valley and Nero d’Avola from McLaren Vale. Regardless of origin, the wines offer deliciousness and plenty of interest.

Pairing guide
Dolcetto, dolcetto, dolcetto… is there any other wine that’s as satisfying to say as it is to drink? This boldly flavoured bottle from La Prova is sure to satisfy all your Italian cuisine cravings, as it matches brilliantly with homemade meaty pizzas, trattoria classics like bolognese and mushroom risotto, and with beef ravioli and dozens of other Italian creations. Burgers, roast poultry, and sticky ribs will also work brilliantly here, as will eggplant parmigiano, moussaka, and family favourites like cottage pie.

Wine region

Limestone Coast, Australia
The Limestone Coast is a large wine zone in the south-east of South Australia which has six wine regions that comprise the Limestone Coast; Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Robe and Wrattonbully. The Limestone Coast is in a unique position with cool winds and ocean waters throughout the summer months thanks to an oceanic event called the Bonney Upwelling which helps keep the vineyards cool during the hot summer months. The Limestone Coast produces a wide range of quality wines from classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz in Coonawarra to cool-climate varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Robe and Mount Gambier. It is truly a versatile area and one of the backbones of the Australian wine industry.
