Details
A statement of delicious and adventurous intent, this deep golden wine - Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne co-fermented on their skins for 205 days - opens with aromas of intense mandarin peel and sweet honey, then beguiles with a savoury steeliness and notes of cut apple. There’s texture in spades, with richness and body, and tangy deliciousness. A modern and contemplative wine from a bygone era.
Cult favourite La Petite Mort, from the Bent Road Winery in Queensland’s high altitude Granite Belt, makes small-batch and experimental wines from organically-managed vineyards, with minimal winemaking intervention to allow their raw essence to shine through. Rustic and characterful, LPM wines promise a unique sensory experience and a story behind every label. One of Bent Road’s experiments is to emulate Georgian winemaking traditions using ‘qvevri’ or large terracotta clay pots buried in the ground; these are used for fermentation and maturation of wine, with the contents naturally refrigerated with the temperature of the earth, allowing for longer skin-contact time. The edgy La Petite Mort label makes quite a statement too. It's up to you to decide what that statement is, but it should evoke the feeling that this is NOT your average bottle of Chardy! As the conduit for LPM’s alternative and experimental wines, the label is very much intended to prepare you, the prospective drinker, for the fact that this wine may have a surprise or two up its sleeve…

Pairing guide
Ooh, this is a special one. We’re big fans of skin contact wines at GPD HQ, and this bottle from La Petite Mort truly caught our attention, and got us dreaming up all kinds of scrumptious food pairings! We reckon it’s an absolute winner with whole roast cauliflower or spicy cauliflower salads, as well as with crispy tofu dishes and stir-fried noodles with plenty of ginger, sesame and garlic. Roast chicken and turkey salads, lamb kebabs and homemade shawarma, and hummus and other dips are also going to be great!
