Details
The Saralee Vineyard lies in the Russian River Valley - a chilly part of the Sonoma Coast which is marked by fog. It can be roasting hot in the morning and by mid-afternoon freezing cold. Those big changes help make for wines that can be both rich and luscious but surprisingly fresh, just like this Chardonnay. It has all of the grand buttery peachy and pineapple richness and toast, but with this saline freshness through the finish.

The La Crema timeline goes back to 1979, when it was first launched in California's Sonoma region as La Crema Viñera - aka 'the cream of the vine'. From the start, this estate was all about cool climate wines, with Sonoma as the focus. It was a pretty basic backyard operation at first (no hot running water), run by Californian biology student-turned-winemaker Rod Bergland. It wasn't until 1993, when the estate was sold to Jess Jackson, of the eponymous Jackson Family Wines, that the renamed La Crema really took off, finding a new mission as a hero of not just Californian Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, but Oregon too. Flash forward a few decades, and La Crema is now a powerhouse of American wine. Still run by the Jackson family, what makes the Chardonnay & Pinot Noir from La Crema famous is the celebration of place, with a dazzling volume of single AVA (the American wine region designation) and single vineyard wines from plots up and down the Pacific coast.

Pairing guide
A luscious Californian Chardonnay like this demands equally bold flavours, so don't be afraid to lean into richness. This full-bodied, flavour-packed white is an ideal match for roasted spatchcock chicken with lemon and herbs, pan-seared scallops with beurre blanc, or a creamy seafood pasta with a touch of saffron. If you are after a vegan option, try a butternut squash and coconut curry with jasmine rice, roasted cauliflower steaks with cashew cream and turmeric, or a creamy mushroom risotto with toasted hazelnuts. Each of these dishes beautifully echoes the wine’s inherent richness, silky texture, and vibrant pineapple notes.

California is a large wine region is located in the United States, known for producing some of the world's most popular and highly-regarded wines. Naturally, the region is located in the state of California, which has a Mediterranean-like climate well-suited to grape growing. The wine-growing area stretches from north to south, with the Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Central Coast being some of the most well-known sub-regions. The first winery in the region was established by Spanish missionaries in 1779, and the wine produced there was used for religious purposes. California is known for producing a wide range of wines, including world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Some of the most notable wineries in the region include Napa Valley's Robert Mondavi Winery, Stag's Leap, Sonoma Valley's Jordan Vineyard & Winery and the infamous Ridge Vineyards to the south.
