Details
Showcasing yet another La Crema regional expression, this great Pinot Noir comes from the Russian River Valley, a chilly part of Cali that makes wonderfully detailed and beautiful Pinot Noir. That's on full display in this rich and raspberried red with lots of flavour in a rather American way, yet with subtle spice and complex edges too. It's the sort of Pinot that announces itself when plonked on your dinner table, but charms you more and more with every glass.

The La Crema timeline goes back to 1979, when it was first launched in California's Sonoma region as La Crema Viñera - aka 'the cream of the vine'. From the start, this estate was all about cool climate wines, with Sonoma as the focus. It was a pretty basic backyard operation at first (no hot running water), run by Californian biology student turned winemaker Rod Bergland. It wasn't until 1993, when the estate was sold to Jess Jackson, of the eponymous Jackson Family Wines, that the renamed La Crema really took off, finding a new mission as a hero of not just Calfornian Chardonnay & Pinot Noir, but Oregon too. Flash forward a few decades, and La Crema is now a powerhouse of American wine, Still run by the Jackson family, what makes the Chardonnay & Pinot Noir from La Crema famous is the celebration of place, with a dazzling volume of single AVA (the American wine region designation) and single vineyard wines from plots up and down the Pacific coast.

Pairing guide
This impressively mouth-filling Pinot Noir really does highlight how great the best Californian wines can be - what a pity we don't get to see much of them in Australia! This is both a fleshy wine with a seamlessness to it, and we love pairing this wine with rich, fatty meats like duck (especially when cooked in a fruity sauce featuring caramelised orange or cherry), chicken tagine, meatloaf, or juicy cuts of beef like hanger steak. It’s also surprisingly delicious polenta, and with seafood too - especially roast cod with cherry tomatoes, or spicy squid made with a tomato and chilli sauce.

Wine region
California, United States
California is a large wine region is located in the United States, known for producing some of the world's most popular and highly-regarded wines. Naturally, the region is located in the state of California, which has a Mediterranean-like climate well-suited to grape growing. The wine-growing area stretches from north to south, with the Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Central Coast being some of the most well-known sub-regions. The first winery in the region was established by Spanish missionaries in 1779, and the wine produced there was used for religious purposes. California is known for producing a wide range of wines, including world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Some of the most notable wineries in the region include Napa Valley's Robert Mondavi Winery, Stag's Leap, Sonoma Valley's Jordan Vineyard & Winery and the infamous Ridge Vineyards to the south.
