Details
Made from a blend of Garnacha and the local Bobal from a two hectare vineyard that was planted 60 years ago. This looks for all the world like a modern, light Aussie expression of Grenache - red rose petals, raspberry and cherry, and with a tangy, rocky undertow. Vibrant, crunchy and delicious!

La Comarcal (The Local) is based in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro, part of the wine region of Valencia. It’s the project of close friends, Javi Revert and Victor Marques, who met as young makers at one of the iconic wineries of the region, Celler del Roure, where they worked together for over a decade. La Comarcal attempts to combine the intensity with which both Victor and Javi work (focussing on regenerative farming practices, keeping to the heritage varietals of Valencia, old vines and terroir expressiveness), with what they see as their personal characters; an unflustered calmness considered typical of the people of the Mediterranean coast. The result is La Comarcal - fresh, vibrant, gluggable wine produced with all of the care and attention to detail in farming and wine making that Javi uses in his own personal project or Victor maintains at Celler del Roure. The kicker? A laidback price tag and a thoroughly vinous style that suggests more seriousness than the labels do! All four wines they produce are made using native yeasts, organic farming with some biodynamic treatments and no additions other than small amounts of sulphur. They are delicious expressions of modern Spanish farming and winemaking, from traditional varieties of the region.

Pairing guide
We love a good Garnacha Blend at GPD HQ, and this stunning bottle from La Comarcal showcases the very best of Spain’s Mediterranean coast and the remarkable grapes grown there. When it comes to food pairing, this wine calls out for satisfyingly hearty, homemade fare - one-pot wonders with chicken thighs and aromatic herbs, or traybakes featuring chickpeas, eggplant and harissa. Ratatouille dishes, beef and vegetable stews, roast poultry or glazed hams are also going to be excellent, as will sausage casserole or roast red capsicums. Delicious!
