Details
Every bit the traditional Marlborough Sauv, this snappy, citrussy and juicy Sauv Blanc is full of grassy gooseberry and passionfruit, with a great balance between crisp acidity and a flourish of tropical fruit. The emphasis here is on energy and vitality, with a real sense of freshly-picked grapes and lovely ripe fruit.

Andrew Bailey's career didn't follow the usual trajectory. Sure, he grew up in the verdant green world of Marlborough, on New Zealand's South Island, he dropped out of university and left behind the wine life and moved to the Netherlands to follow a professional cricket career (as you do). He couldn't leave wine behind, and found himself running a wine distribution company in the Netherlands with fellow cricketer Jarrod Englefield. Eventually, he returned to NZ and founded the phenomenally successful Misty Cove Wines, where he spent over a decade crafting an array of modern Kiwi wines. Andrew has now stepped back from the Misty Cove world in search of new projects, with Kōtātā is one of Andrew's pet labels, devoted to classic Marlborough wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio.

Pairing guide
The cut and grassy freshness of a good Kiwi Sauv is hard to ignore, and this white does it so well. Like most wines made from this widely-adored grape varietal, this one pairs really well with all kinds of green vegetable dishes: think spring risottos packed with herbs and peas, asparagus tarts, courgette pasta, and pea and artichoke antipasti. However, it’s also going to go really well with delicate white fish, homemade pesto, and especially dishes that pack in plenty of goat's cheese!

Wine region
Marlborough, New Zealand
Marlborough is by far and away the jewel in New Zealand's winemaking crown. Situated at the northern tip of the South Island, Marlborough is home to one of the world's most celebrated and popular styles of wine: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The region surmises the natural beauty that New Zealand boasts and is now home to over 500 wine producers of varying sizes, from epic, large-scale operations to small, boutique craft producers. Naturally, the region is celebrated for its zesty, pungent styles of Sauvignon Blanc, but the wine train doesn't stop there. Marlborough is also celebrated for very high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the latter being some of the most underrated wines in the region). You will also find smaller pockets of Viognier, Riesling and Pinot Gris planted here. Marlborough represents almost 75% of all wine produced in New Zealand.
