Details
Koonara winemaker Peter Douglas said these barrels were too good to be used for their other Pinot, so they created this new wine. And he’s absolutely right, this wine is a ripper! Bright in the glass, with plush & generous aromas of red cherries with vanilla and savoury stalk, it’s soft, supple, light but multifaceted, and in balance with acidity and light tannins. Delicious.
The Reschke family have lived in Coonawarra for over a hundred years, arriving in 1906 when Henry Albert and Alice Jane Reschke bought a cattle property they called Koonara after the newly named area; at the time the region was known as the Penola Fruit Blocks but many people there were keen to make this new Coonawarra name stick. Eight decades later in the ‘80s, Trevor Reschke started a hobby vineyard on the family land. The wines were initially made just for family and friends, but they proved such a success that in 1999 he decided to release their first bottles for sale. Today the cattle stud on the property is still there, but wine has taken over the family business. Now Trevor’s son Dru, his wife Nicole and their girls Lucy and Alice live in the family homestead at Koonara, surrounded by their vineyards. Dru has created a sustainable ecosystem, with the vineyards certified organic since 2017. Here’s cheers to another hundred years at Koonara!

Pairing guide
The winemakers of Koonara have outdone themselves once again with this amazingly food-friendly Pinot Noir, which matches a gorgeously floral character with plenty of silky elegance - perfect for cracking open at dinner time! You’ll love this wine with slow-cooked lamb, beef and pork dishes, juicy duck legs in a rich tomato and garlic sauce, cassoulet, ratatouille, boeuf bourguignon and plenty of other bistro classics. Root vegetables - especially beetroot - will be great, as will earthy brown rice dishes and anything with wild mushrooms.

Mount Gambier, Australia
Bejewelled with natural features, such as dormant volcanoes, aquifers, and the region's iconic Blue Lake. It’s no wonder Mount Gambier pulls so many holidaymakers all year round! Among the charming old dairy business is Australia’s newest and most exciting wine regions.
Vineyards in Mount Gambier benefit from a dry Mediterranean climate and low disease pressure. The vineyards are planted on favourable sedimentary limestone and volcanic igneous rocks throughout; ancient volcanic ash has weathered into a well-drained and highly fertile loam – a vigneron’s dream! Expect a bright future for this region, main varieties here are Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Chardonnay, Riesling, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc, the hero white grape of the region.
