The ‘Duet’ is a Pinot Noir and Syrah blend bursting out the seams with flavour that you should hold on tight for. Prepare yourself for a summer berry feast with notes of blueberry, boysenberry and cherry with a background of smoke, pepper and rosemary. There are some juicy tannins to boot and subtle earthiness.

Dave Mackintosh is a New Zealander who plied his trade in Australia for over 15 years, making exciting wines under the Arfion label in the Yarra Valley. After a decent stint in oz, Dave and his family decided to make the move back home to Auckland. On returning home, he started Kenzie wines, which is a nod to his great-grandmother who was the first generation to move from their ancestral home of Scotland to New Zealand during the 1930s. The wines are made in Hawkes Bay, a stunningly beautiful region in the southern half of the north island. The first thing to note with the Kenzie wines is their artistic and colourful labels, which Dave creates himself. There is a growing range of wines, all made under the same umbrella of minimal intervention, small batch wines with a high attention to detail. There is everything from Albarino to classic Hawkes Bay Syrah to skinsy orange wines.

Pairing guide
This beautiful Pinot Syrah blend from Kenzie delivers a deeply satisfying punch, elevated by those silky, juicy notes we know and love so much. It’s a fantastic red to serve with warming, homely dishes - we especially liked it with bean stews and soups, but it’s particularly well-suited to being served with slow-cooked lamb or beef dishes, Tex-Mex favourites like chilli con carne, and Creole or Cajun flavours. Roasted tomatoes and capsicums, grilled eggplants, cheesy mushroom creations and roast poultry with gravy will also hit the spot perfectly.

The top wine styles produced in Hawke's Bay include Chardonnay, Syrah, and Bordeaux-style blends, which all thrive in the region's warm and dry conditions. The top sub-regions within Hawke's Bay include not only Gimblett Gravels but also the Bridge Pa Triangle and Te Awanga regions, which are known for their glorious Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
