Details
A really wonderful wine - a red for warmer weather. Transparent in colour, slippery in texture and a joy to drink, this Grenache sees no oak and instead allows the vibrant red fruits to leap from the glass. Think rose petal, raspberry and Turkish Delight and you're on the right track. As close to Pinot Noir as the Barossa gets.
The Barossa Valley is a bastion of tradition - the heartland of South Australian wine, and in many ways the centre of Australian wine itself. Families have lived there for over 150 years, growing grapes and making wine on the same patches of dirt. This kind of tradition is wonderful to behold, but can sometimes stifle innovation. It's a joy then to see the best of both worlds at an institution like Kalleske. With family roots going back to 1853, they have grown grapes in the region for six generations, and have been certified biodynamic since 1998. In 2002, seventh generation family member Troy Kalleske set up the eponymous winery to start making wines from this family's high quality grapes. Some of the wines they make follow the Barossa norm of power and impact, whereas others have a foot firmly in the world of modern winemaking, with a lighter touch and more delicate flavours. The Kalleske family are active practitioners of sustainable farming. They are caretakers of the land and not only want to maintain the environment but improve it for future generations. This is one iconic place where the future beckons brightly.

Pairing guide
We really enjoyed pairing this beautiful Grenache from Kalleske with some seriously tasty ingredients, and we have no doubt that you’ll have a very similar experience in your own kitchens with this bottle! It’s a great wine for chargrilled red meats, sausages, homemade burgers, and beef steak or pork chops, and it’s able to stand up to Asian spice rubs and all kinds of spicy marinades for your roasted meats and veggies, too. Barbecued duck, roasted parsnips, falafel, miso chicken, gnocchi with tomatoes… the options are as varied as they are irresistible!
