Details
The name is a dead giveaway here - Wes sources the grapes for this super Shiraz from a sandy corner of the famous Wait Vineyard in McLaren Vale. It's a seriously powerful red too - a brooding, deep and dark red with masses of purple fruit, and yet this savouriness and dark spicy edge that comes from the grapes off this vineyard in the high end of the Blewitt Springs sub district. A wine of presence and persistence that screams McLaren Vale in every way.
You can call Juxtaposed winemaker Dr Wes Pearson Superman. That's because, by day, Wes is a mild-mannered research scientist at the Australian Wine Research Institute investigating important things like how bushfires affect wines. Then, when the sun goes down, this wine doctor turns into a superhero of McLaren Vale wine, using grapes sourced from inarguably the best vineyards in the region to craft magnificent expressions of minimal intervention Vale styles. Seasoned oak, minimal additions and maximal flavour are the guiding ethos here, and it really works. It's pronounced in the Juxtaposed Grenache & Shiraz wines, led by an array of single vineyard releases that showcase old vines and excellent fruit. Don't miss the textural Fiano, savoury Sangiovese and other occasional releases from Dr Wes' kit bag.

Pairing guide
You really can’t beat a character Shiraz at the dinner table, and this beautifully vibrant bottle from Juxtaposed definitely hits the high notes. This red wonder is going to be excellent with grilled ribs, homemade burgers, meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, Moroccan lamb tagines, roast red meats and offal and game dishes - it’s a real meat lover’s favourite! Vegetarians need not panic, however - we also adored this wine with rustic bean stews, braised lentils, mushrooms and eggplant, too.
