Details
A quiet riot of dark summer berries, some barrel spice and a velvet texture. There's lot to love here - blueberry, mulberry and some cooked plum, all smothered in vanilla and clove. It carries the weight well though, the wood not too heavy. Gently spicy on the finish, it's all harmonious and elegant.

It’s hard to imagine, but there was once a time - and not all that long ago - that South African wines weren’t much of a big deal. However, thanks to hardworking and visionary winemakers like the Gabb family, the Cape’s fortunes and reputation as a centre of viticultural excellence has done something of a 180-degree turn over the past few decades… and the vino coming from this fascinating and varied New World country gives us plenty to shout about. Journey's End is their flagship wine label, and as always they are committed to coaxing the most flavour possible from their stunning vines. It shows the world that this pioneering SA family still have plenty of energy and enthusiasm for what they do best! The vineyards which lead to this spectacular wine are situated on the far side of Stellenbosch, where the land remains just wild enough to keep things interesting, and yet still packed with the rich and complex soils that make this such a beloved corner of the winemaking world. Using bold methods, and never shying away from controversial and surprising blends, the Gabbs keep us all guessing in the best possible way. Long may they continue!

Pairing guide
The blend of Merlot and Malbec in this wine from Journey’s End offers mountains of hedgerow fruit flavours, while packing in plenty of jammy character alongside a plush and slightly decadent feel. It’s going to be delicious paired with meat and fruit combos - we’re talking duck legs with plum sauce, Moroccan tagines of lamb and prunes, and beef with a berry jus. It’s also great with roast beef or pork dinners, dishes which make a star ingredient of garlic, and pretty much anything with wild mushrooms. Who could ask for more?
