Details
Welcome to the spice zone. This bittersweet and savoury style of Adelaide Hills Pinot is so complex and involving, with layers of gentle, yet taut and detailed dark cherry and cola fruit in a moody mode that feels high-toned and interesting, like putting on a very fancy hat, just for the sake of it.
'Our ultimate aim is to lead a humble life farming some land in the best way we possibly can.' That's the noble ethos of Jemma & Steve Fielke, who both come from a pretty storied wine background (Jemma as a viticulturist, Steve as a winemaker) and now focus on a freshly planted patch of dirt in the Adelaide Hills. While they wait for their vineyard - planted to Grenache, which is unusual for this part of the world - to mature, the pair make a small range of wines, mainly from the Adelaide Hills but also down into McLaren Vale, that feel very handmade and real, explaining how they want to 'make wines people can simply enjoy over dinner, but that can also stand up to any level of scrutiny, if consumers choose to probe them deeper'.

Pairing guide
A spicy, autumnal Pinot Noir like this one is something to really contemplate. It's moody, complex, and so interesting, although it presents plenty of challenges to pair. Slow-cooked meats and earthy, rich and complex dishes are the natural pairing here, with beef, pork and lamb in the slow cooker, especially with plenty of herbs, as a very smart choice. Mushroom, anything with brown rice, and roasted pumpkin or sweet potato make excellent choices as well, though steer well clear of chilli as it really amps up the wine's spice even more.

Wine region

Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges
of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
