Details
This delightful single vineyard SBS is dominated ever so slightly by the Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of passionfruit and blackcurrant notes before the Semillon takes over with some lemongrass and thin vein of acid.

Origin: Probably Bordeaux, in Eastern France. But now found most places. Mainly Grown In: Definitely Bordeaux, but also Margaret River and the Riverland. Key Facts: Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are like two peas in a pod... a wine pod. They're like twins who shine individually, but put 'em together and they make a pretty fine pair. They have complementary fruit characteristics, and their acid structure (pretty intense in both cases!) also seems to match up. The fruit spectrum is moderately tropical, with grassy overtones and plenty of zing. Look out for kiwi fruit, green apple and a touch of herbal flavours. In France this blend is often lightly oaked, which certainly boosts the complexity of the wine, but in the new world the 'purer' version seems to be preferred. Fun Fact: Like goats’ cheese? Perfect. This is a classic to pair with a Sauv Sem! And if you like your greens too, it’s the perfect cheese to toss in the mix with this wine poured on the side.

Pairing guide
Fresh, zesty, and featuring a bright acidity that always makes for great food-friendliness, this Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend from Ironcloud Wines is quickly becoming a firm favourite with all of us here. Those delicious vegetal flavours make this a fantastic match for fresh green salads, green beans, asparagus dishes, and risottos with peas and goats’ cheese, but we can also see this wine pairing beautifully with white fish like bream and bass, or flatfish like skate and plaice with a caper sauce. Yum!

Wine region
Geographe, Australia
Geographe is a wine region located in the South West region of Western Australia (40 minute’s drive Northeast of Margaret River). It has a Mediterranean-style climate with warm, dry summers and mild, winters, which is ideal for growing grapes. The soils are predominantly sandy loams, providing good drainage and nutrient levels for the vines, and some vineyards have access to the permanent water table 15m below. It is known for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz. Compared to nearby Margaret River, Cabernet Sauvignon from Geographe tends to have distinctly fine gain and lingering tannins. The region has seen a rapid growth of boutique producers in recent years, aided by its proximity to Geographe Bay, which is home to a world-class food and wine scene, but attractions like Busselton Jetty, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and gorgeous seascape panoramas.
