Cumquat
Green Pear

Details
Delicately floral with notes of green pear, citrus and some raw almond. The palate is peachy, yet frisky, with a sprinkling of herbs and a slight bitter cumquat note. There is a delightful textural element here too - like sucking on an apricot stone with a lean, fine acidity. Such a good drink!

Meet Il Cattivo, the new brainchild of one of our local favourites, Richard Bate of Karatta wines and his good mate Anthony Catinari. The new venture takes place at the seaside tourist hamlet of Port Elliot, about an hour south of Adelaide. Here these two mates are making a  a playful, cheeky range that highlights everything good about wine. Think maximum flavour, minimal intervention, and no shortage of character. Most of the fruit is from their estate vineyard overlooking the picturesque Fisherman Bay. The grapes planted here were an easy decision; Fiano and Montepulciano, channelling Anthony’s family roots in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Additionally, grapes are sourced from carefully selected sites in the McLaren Vale (Grenache) and Adelaide Hills (Tempranillo). Regardless of where the fruit's from, in the winery you can expect to see only native yeasts at play and minimal filtering. These methods in addition to short maceration times for the reds, result in truly expressive, supple and bright wines with a punch of personality. In other words, Il Cattivo has nailed its mission. Don't forget you tasted them with us first!

Pairing guide
We absolutely love this classic-style Arneis wine from Il Cattivo, who never fail to bring bags of old world charm to the table with their varied and reliable releases. Arneis, on the whole, calls for a decidedly delicate touch when it comes to food pairing - you’re going to want to match this vino up with milder flavours, including chicken breast, turkey, silky fillets of sea bass or similar white fish, and simple creamy pasta creations. Breaded escalopes of pork or turkey work very nicely, as do shellfish dishes tossed in white wine and cream sauces. Perfection awaits.

Wine region
Fleurieu Peninsula, Australia
The Fleurieu Peninsula wine region is located in South Australia. The region is known for its relatively cool climate wines (compared to other parts of South Australia), Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay do particularly well in these parts. The area has a long history of winemaking, with the first vines being planted in the 1850s. Today, the region is home to a number of small, family-owned wineries that produce high-quality wines using traditional winemaking techniques. The cool climate and mineral-rich soils of the region give the wines their distinctive character and flavour. Perhaps the most famous of all of the Fleurieu Peninsula's sub-regions is McLaren Vale in the northwest, home to some of the finest red wines in Australia.
