Details
This savoury, serious wine is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. The grapes saw several months of ageing in larger barrels prior to release, to soften and mature the wine. It is a bright ruby red in the glass. Bright cherry and cranberry notes dominate on the nose, with sage and thyme. Lifted acidity and a grippy network of tannins delineate the palate. It’s dry, red fruited with herbal notes and has a long, spicy finish.

I Veroni is named after the historical terraces that would surround the winery, where the locals would dry tobacco leaf and various grains. The property is steeped in history and the winery was first established in 1895. Located just out of Florence in Pontassieve, which is part of Chianti Rufina, parts of the original structure (a large stone fermentation tank) from 1809 are still in visible in the current cellars. Recently the focus has been to concentrate on high density plantings of Sangiovese in Chianti and Chianti Rufina. These vineyards are located between 100 to 350 meters above sea level and planted on sandstone. This elevation brings a freshness to the wine that makes the resulting style highly drinkable and also improves ageing. The vines are grown in an organic manner and are surrounded in parts by 30 hectares of olive groves - a sustainable ecosystem in full effect! There is also a small amount of white grapes grown for the dessert wine Vin Santo del Rufina and few international grape varieties such as Merlot.
