Details
They call this range 'classic', but there just aren't many Hilltops Pinot Gris to really compare it to! Luckily, it's a real banger with a fresh, floral white-flower sort of fragrance that feels like you've stopped off at the orchard at flowering time. Underneath, there's honeysuckle, yellow apples and green pear, with all of the orchard fruit on display. Only just medium bodied, this is crisp and easygoing fun.

While the story of Hungerford Hill goes all the way back to 1967, when the Hungerford family first started planting vines in the Hunter Valley, it's the modern history of this winery that is the important bit. Now once again a family-owned business, and with a portfolio of famous old Hunter Valley vineyards and more wines from the cooler, wilder parts of NSW, Hungerford Hill is back (with a vengeance). You can blame Chief Winemaker Bryan 'BC' Currie for the newness. Bryan famously studied paleontology at university before becoming a winemaker, but there are no dinos here - instead, he produces a clever range that covers everything from the country's best Fiano, superb Tumbarumba Chardonnay & Pinot, a whole array of spicy Hilltops reds, and some of the best preservative-free reds in the Hunter.

Pairing guide
One of the great things about a Pinot Gris like this is just how easygoing it is - there is just lightly fruity joy in this Hungerford Hill white. It's a tremendously versatile and food-friendly white that will taste wonderful when served with a brilliant range of foods and ingredients. Not to mention a wine that pleases many palates! Like most Pinot Gris, this bottle is a shoo-in for pairing with chicken dishes, lightly grilled white meats, and buttery or cheesy sauces. However, it’s also beautiful alongside pork and apple dishes, smoked fish, and basically anything breaded and fried or deep-fried in batter (we’re looking at you, fish and chips!).
