Details
Drawn from the NSW Hilltops, which is fast becoming a hotspot for fine Fiano, this Hungerford Hill white is one of the country's most winningest Fiano releases (yes, we're going with winningest). It's a vibrant thing, with zesty lemon and tangerine alongside white blossoms, honeysuckle, and a subtle hint of fresh thyme. The palate strikes a pretty clever balance between refreshing acidity and that signature, slightly oily texture, the flavours of ripe peach and apricot adding some extra juicy layers too.

While the story of Hungerford Hill goes all the way back to 1967, when the Hungerford family first started planting vines in the Hunter Valley, it's the modern history of this winery that is the important bit. Now once again a family-owned business, and with a portfolio of famous old Hunter Valley vineyards and more wines from the cooler, wilder parts of NSW, Hungerford Hill is back (with a vengeance). You can blame Chief Winemaker Bryan 'BC' Currie for the newness. Bryan famously studied paleontology at university before becoming a winemaker, but there are no dinos here - instead, he produces a clever range that covers everything from the country's best Fiano, superb Tumbarumba Chardonnay & Pinot, a whole array of spicy Hilltops reds, and some of the best preservative-free reds in the Hunter.

Pairing guide
Did you know Fiano is thought to have been the key grape for one of the Romans' favourite wines, Apianum? There's a lovely honeysuckle character that makes Fiano like this one a winner, too. It's a great pairing with Yum Cha favourites like dumplings and pork buns as a start, plus spring rolls (naturally). It’s also a brilliant wine for pairing with creamy chicken or pork pasta dishes, chicken and leek pies and pastries, and rich seafood soups and chowders. Brilliant with barbecued prawns, delightful with sweet ‘n’ sour creations, and ideal with scallops, salmon, and simple pasta dishes.
