Details
Like finding a $50 note in your jeans. That's how this wine makes you feel. Now clicking over into five years in bottle, this full-bodied Coonawarra red comes from one of the proud names of the region and is made in an equally proud fashion. Dark berry fruits (and loads of it), plenty of oak (it spent over 18 months in barrel to help soften the edges), lots of tannins, and acres of flavour! A glorious big red, just starting to get a little silkier, and for a great price.
Origin: It’s believed that the first wines made were in the Médoc region, in the west of France. Mainly Grown In: France, USA, Australia, Italy, Chile, South Africa, Argentina, Spain, NZ… all over, really! Key Facts: Cabernet Sauvignon is truly a globetrotter. Having its home in Bordeaux certainly helped its rapid expansion, as the Bordelaise (those coming from Bordeaux) are excellent marketers of their own product! Now found in almost all wine-producing countries of the world, Cab Sav is traditionally full-bodied, loaded with plenty of dark fruit (think blueberry and blackberry) and backed up by a zing of herbal/grassy kind of flavours. It’s also known for its strong backbone of tannin – that furry, drying sensation you sometimes get with red wines. Cabernet has plenty of it, but is still a smooth talker regardless. Fun Fact: Bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon made in Bordeaux over two hundred years ago are some of the rarest in the fine wine world... we've never tasted them, but the wealthy experts tell us they are incredible!

Pairing guide
With its bold flavours and rich tannins, this stylish Cabernet Sauvignon is the ideal choice for dishes that don’t pull any punches when it comes to the impact made on the palate! It’s a great wine for steak night - especially if said steak comes drizzled in a powerful sauce - and with roast beef dinners, leg of lamb or lamb shanks in a rich gravy. Wild mushrooms, truffle and garlic potatoes, strong cheeses and umami-bomb veggie dishes like miso eggplant will also provide memorable pairings you’re sure to adore.

Wine region

Coonawarra, Australia
Coonawarra is in the southeastern corner of South Australia, located in the Limestone Coast of South Australia, about 300 km southeast of Adelaide. The region experiences a maritime influence due to the upwelling of cold ocean currents. The main varieties grown in the region are Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, and Chardonnay. Here you can find the legendary terra rossa soil, with its thin iron-oxide-based topsoil over limestone, giving it that unmistakable reddish hue. This soil type is believed to be a major contributing factor to the robust character of the wines.
The Coonawarra wine region stretches about 15 km, with more than 50 wineries. Penfolds, Wynns, Balnaves, Rymil and Katnook Estate are among the most notable and historic in the region. Each of them produces highly sought Cabernet Sauvignon that is medium to full-bodied, with brood notes of cassis, blackberry, plum and dark cherry flavours. Structured with firm but plush tannins, the very best of them cellar gracefully for decades.
