Details
Crafted in a Kabinett trocken style - so grapes picked ripe and fermented to dryness - this energetic German Riesling has a nose of crystalline freshness, with a whisper of dried herbs, grapefruit, lemon, and the most irrepressibly fresh palate of citrus vitality. It simply couldn't be much fresher.

Hofgut Falkenstein makes the sort of mineral-laden, sublimely intense, typically dry Mosel Riesling that dreams are made of. Working out of a deep, cool cellar in the Saar, Erich Weber naturally ferments his wine ultra slow and cool in traditional old wooden casks, with the finished product then bottled in the traditional, cask-by-cask method. Most of the wines from Hofgut Falkenstein are either naturally dry (trocken) or just off-dry (feinherb), but you'll struggle to see obvious sweetness here in what are typically scintillating white wines of prodigious vitality and minerality. A tiny volume of involving sweet Auslese & Spatlese complete the range, but the dry styles are the charmers. And charming they are - bejewelled Riesling of irrepressible life and energy.

Pairing guide
The name of this wine might be a bit of a mouthful, but there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s a beautifully crafted Riesling and the perfect reminder of what Germany’s Mosel Valley does best. This crisp and stunningly well balanced Riesling is going to pair well with a huge array of dishes and ingredients - curried poultry, delicate white fish fillets, seafood salads and rice dishes, southeast Asian curries and spicy broths, marinated tofu, crispy noodles, satay sauces… the list just goes on and on! Roast pork with green vegetables would be highly recommended, and it’s also excellent for pairing with chicken and mushrooms. Nice!

Wine region
Mosel, Germany
Mosel is arguably Germany's most famous wine region and is home to some of the best white wines on the talent made from the mighty Riesling grape variety. Here you will find some of the steepest vineyards in the world planted on the banks of the Mosel River, which plays a crucial role in ripening the grapes, acting as a mirror to reflect sunlight off the water back onto the steep, slate vineyards, warming up the soils and ripening the berries. Riesling is produced in a range of styles and sweetnesses here, from bone dry, to lusciously sweet. If you are in the market for world-class Riesling, then look no further than this stunning region.
