Details
The Hochkirch Rosé reflects the place and wine methods perfectly to produce a wine that is to be contemplated over while doing a crossword or maybe discussing philosophical matters. There are fleshy red berries and a lovely creamy texture to this wine which has you salivating. Red berries dominate the palate with just a hint of spice reaching the edges of your imagination. Delightful in every respect.

Hochkirch Wines are located near the town of Tarrington in South-West Victoria in the region of Henty. The region, although small, is known for a collection of family owned wineries like Hochkirch which are much loved across Australia. The name Hochkirch is actually the original name for Tarrington, which was changed during World War I, and was a town with a proud German heritage where the Nagorcka family grew up. Today, Jennifer and John Nagorcka are managing the farm that has been in their family since their great-grandfather moved there from Germany. They manage a mixed biodynamic farm where their cherished vines are producing some highly sought after wines. There is a hands-off approach in the winery with wild yeast used and only a splash of sulphur used prior to bottling. The main varieties that they focus on are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling and our suggestion is to get in quick!

Pairing guide
All the rich red berry fruit flavours in this rosé make it an absolute joy to pair with homemade food, not least with dishes which reflect this flavour profile with style. Moroccan salads with pomegranate, raspberry vinaigrettes, duck breast with berry jus and charcuterie with dried fruits will work like a dream. It’s also great with salty cheeses, feta and spinach combos, salmon and tuna, grilled seafood and savoury pastries too.

Wine region
Henty, Australia
Henty is a cool region conceived by Chief Viticulturist Karl Seppelt in 1964. Originally Henty was known only as prime grazing terrain, full of undulating hills, much like the rest of western Victoria, for quality wool! Nowadays, Riesling is hands down the stand-out variety in this region. Still, you can also find excellent cool climate renditions of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Shiraz Viognier, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Steady ripening in autumn, low but high-quality yields results in elegant and intensely flavourful wines. The Henty wine region encompasses a large part of Victoria, extending from the SA border of Coonawarra east to Hopkins River (Warrnambool longitude). Major subregions are Hamilton, think the textural delight that is Lethbridge Wines and Tarrington, the hard-to-say but easy to drink Hochkirch Wines. Yum!
