Details
The Leask brothers are tapping into a different vineyard for this super Syrah, drawing grapes from the Hillenvale Vineyard at Kangarilla on the border between the Adelaide Hills & McLaren Vale regions. There's a little bit of both areas in this dark berried wine too, with the dark berried richness we know and love from the Vale, but topped off with more blueberry and violet that the Adelaide Hills are famous for. Whatever regional style you call it, this is a delicious South Australian red.

While the family vineyards date back to 1980, Hither & Yon’s journey began in 2012 from the capable hands of the Leask brothers. Richard is the outside man, the farmer and maker; Malcolm is the inside guy, director and creator. The aim is to make better wines with a lighter footprint. To do this, Hither & Yon apply regenerative farming methods that’d make Costas of Gardening Australia proud. Practices include and are not limited to increased plant diversity between rows, the use of beneficial fungi brews, and planned cattle grazing. The result is improved soil structure for better carbon capture and water retention; all this translates to superb fruit for the wines, not to mention some very happy sheep and cattle. We could go on about Richard and Malcolm’s miracle work, but being certified sustainable and carbon neutral says it all. In their own words, ‘We make wines that are good for the environment and feel great to drink!’ Cheers to that!

Pairing guide
We all love a good bottle of Syrah - this timeless red wine style always brings plenty of flavour and character to the table. We adored the depth and class of this release from Hither & Yon; it’s going to be a great choice for any barbecue featuring homemade burgers, racks of ribs, lamb chops or Mediterranean-style chicken thighs with plenty of aromatic herbs. It’s also a great wine to pair with chunky soups and stews featuring root vegetables, cured meats like chorizo, and slow-cooked cuts of beef. Bean and lentil casseroles, chilli con carne, and hearty favourites like lasagna are also never a bad idea.

Wine region
Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
