Details
What an incredible rosy pale-pink colour! Scents of watermelon, red berries, grilled hazelnuts, and even crystallised ginger. Here is a sparkling that zings the moment it hits with its strawberry-kissed flavour. It is totally balanced despite its bristling acidity that is truly the feature here. That piercing acidity counteracts a delicate creaminess - a serious rosé bubbles with lots to enjoy beyond the very worthy cause.
The curiously named vineyard 'Heroes' - is indeed one for the David Bowie fans of the world. From the stunningly picturesque Otway hinterland, near the famous coastal Great Ocean Road is where two 'Heroes' James and Eloise Thomas landed to plant their very own unirrigated, sustainable vineyard twenty years ago. In James's own words "Heroes vineyard was born out of my desire to make wines of the best possible quality without compromise and using non-interventionist methods; wines that stand up on their own merits, truly reflecting their origin." James is originally from the UK, but has been on our shores long enough to have made wine at the famed Bannockburn and Clyde Park wineries in nearby Geelong, and also at his home in England - where he helped in establishing a specialist sparkling house 'Knightor Winery' in Cornwall. Selecting to plant in the Otway Hinterland, its a super cool spot with a chill more akin to that of Tasmania. Perhaps this is why their grapes make such fine sparkling wine?! The 'Deeds not Words' sparkling is a wonderful wine project, made to support women in crisis through the Share the Dignity charity. $5 from each bottle sold is donated to Share the Dignity and every year 'Heroes' aims to raise more money for the charity. Here at GPD, we are happy to support what they do too!

Pairing guide
Elegant, decadent, and more than a little flirtatious, this pink fizz from Heroes Winery is a surefire crowd-pleaser, and one with no shortage of food pairing potential. You can opt for bistro favourites like carpaccio or steak tartare - something about the acidity and bite of this wine really works with raw meat - and you’ll get equally good results by pairing it with raw or lightly grilled shellfish. Stronger meats like spiced pork and stewed lamb will also work well, as will prawns, oily fish, and risotto. Of course, this wine will also provide a memorable taste sensation served alongside desserts of red berries, so feel free to explore the sweeter side of the foodie spectrum, too!
