Details
This wine, a Tempranillo without oak influence, is incredibly fruit-forward and floral. It shines in the glass and shows off plenty of perfume - red berries, violets and a hint of peach. There's an inherent sweetness to the fruit that is well balanced by some gentle clay and earth notes, and with very fine tannins. A thoroughly modern Tempranillo, but a juicy and elegant one.

The famed wine region of Rioja in northern Spain is ground zero for high quality Tempranillo. It is here that the great wines of Spain were produced in the 60s and 70s, and it is here that a new revolution in Spanish wine is taking place. Wines are fresher, more complex and versatile. Some of the oldest families of wine in the area are found in the subregion of Rioja Alavesa. You can't discuss this subregion without mentioning Heredad de Aduna. Since 1650 this winemaking family has striven to create the best and most authentic wines from the region. Over generations, they created a true tradition of craftsmanship. This is a dynamic tradition, however, constantly evolving towards the goal of always achieving the best wine possible. From this principle, arose the new winery of Heredad de Aduna, just a few years ago. It is equipped with state of the art technology, while always keeping in mind the noble values of tradition. Everything is done by hand in the vineyards, where they plant mostly Tempranillo (of course) but also small quantities of Garnacha and Mazuelo. Twin brothers, Oskar and Fernando Martinez, are the current Aduna family members to be given the task of bringing their gifted grapes to harvest and production.

Pairing guide
Is there any wonder why Tempranillo has become such a world-beating wine style? The history behind this Spanish noble grape is a long and impressive one, and today’s Spanish wine producers do a fantastic job of expressing this heritage in bottles such as this one from Heredad de Aduna. This deep red wine is going to pair beautifully with a massive array of meat-based dishes, from lamb shanks in gravy to sirloin steak, from chili con carne to spaghetti bolognese, and from sausages on the barbie to homemade meat pies or a roast dinner. It’s also great with corn dishes, lentil creations, and eggplant, wild mushrooms, beans, and more!

Wine region
Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
