Details
A blend based on Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Golden in colour, it blends rich fruit with some smoky notes and a hint of crushed rock. There's plenty to like here - tropical and stone fruits intermingle with citrus, and then palate is lean to start but really builds in the glass. Don't be afraid to decant this one and watch it shine. A little unusual, but very rewarding.
Founded in 2010 (although their website says "Since Ages Ago") by Kiwi expat Nicholas Gee, Heaps Good Wine Co is a Slovenian winery with attitude. Nick fell in love with a Slovenian girl and followed her back to her homeland....and never left. He's no stranger to foreign vines however, having completed 25 harvests in his time, across 4 different countries, and with over 20 different grape varieties. Safe to say however that the varieties he works with in Slovenia are like no other. Muscat Ottonel, Sipon, Blaufränkisch anyone? Nick's approach is antipodean and egalitarian however - he loves all grapes equally. Lucky enough to work in a cool climate region, the grapes are healthy and expressive. He errs on the side of less intervention, with low levels of preservatives and no other chemical additions. These are wines that speak of the fruit and the soil. How good's that? Heaps Good.

Pairing guide
We take our hats off to the Heaps Good Wine Co - this Chardonnay-based white blend is a masterclass in balance and finesse, without ever being even the tiniest bit boring or predictable. Bursting with flavour, this elegant white wine is going to pair perfectly with meatier white fish (it’s a champion pairing for fish ‘n’ chips), simple stuffed chicken breast dishes, and especially with creamier pork-based pasta sauces. Breaded schnitzels will work brilliantly here, as will luxurious seafood like lobster and scallop, fried calamari, and chopped salads featuring plenty of avocado.

Wine region
Stajerska, Slovenia
Stajerska is a wine region located in eastern Slovenia, bordering Austria to the north and Croatia to the south. It’s one of the country's most important wine-producing regions, accounting for 40% of total production! Crisp white wines are Stajerska's claim to fame. The region's unique microclimate, soil composition, and modern winemaking techniques all contribute to the distinct character of the wines produced there. Although the neutral and high acid Laški Rizling (Welschriesling) is the dominant variety in Stajerska, in recent years, Furmint, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay are increasing in popularity!
