Details
Woah there Nelly. This is gettin' wild. A blend of Furmint and Pinot Gris this is low alcohol, high flavour and a bit of an adventure. Deep orange in colour, the flavours veer that way too - mandarin, dried orange peel and peach skin, mixed with some beeswax and pepper, plus something that could almost be medicinal. Dry and savoury, this needs food, time and your full attention.
Founded in 2010 (although their website says "Since Ages Ago") by Kiwi expat Nicholas Gee, Heaps Good Wine Co is a Slovenian winery with attitude. Nick fell in love with a Slovenian girl and followed her back to her homeland... and never left. He's no stranger to foreign vines however, having completed 25 harvests in his time, across 4 different countries, and with over 20 different grape varieties. Safe to say however that the varieties he works with in Slovenia are like no other. Muscat Ottonel, Sipon, Blaufrankisch anyone? Nick's approach is antipodean and egalitarian however - he loves all grapes equally. Lucky enough to work in a cool climate region, the grapes are healthy and expressive. He errs on the side of less intervention, with low levels of preservatives and no other chemical additions. These are wines that speak of the fruit and the soil. How good's that? Heaps Good.

Pairing guide
This delightful skin contact wine from the Heaps Good Wine Co is yet more proof that orange wine is so much more than a passing fad - it’s here to stay! When it comes to food pairing, this wine loves the earthy flavours of grain-based salads, lamb burgers slicked with a punchy tahini, and fried Indian starters - especially those featuring chickpeas or curried vegetables. However, you’ll also get great results with freshwater fish, trout dishes, and even gently spiced pork - give it a try and see for yourself!

Wine region
Podravska, Slovenia
Podravska is one of the largest wine regions in Slovenia, located in the northeastern part of the country. There’s a rich wine-making tradition with Celtic and later Roman influences. Today there’s a big focus on white wines such as Riesling, Šipon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, as well as red wines like Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, and Zweigelt. The vineyards in Podravska benefit from a favourable climate and fertile soil, which contribute to the unique characteristics of the region's wines. Podravska is a popular destination for wine lovers, the annual Old Vine Festival is a big draw card for thirsty punters!
