Details
Gudilly is a portmanteau of second-generation winemakers and siblings Angus, Digby, and Sally Sorby Adams. What a great word is portmanteau, right! This chunky Shiraz is plenty right too, all plummy forest berries and round flavours aplenty, all just whispering 'BBQ' in your ear.
Origin: The first recognised wines were made in the Rhône Valley and south-eastern France. Mainly Grown In: One of the world’s leading grapes, it is found in France, Australia, the USA, Argentina and South Africa. Key Facts: Shiraz is a world-beater. Starting small in the southern reaches of France, it has spread to all corners of the world, and is known for producing some of the world’s great red wines, capable of perfume, power and persistence. Local versions are luscious and fruity, loaded with plum, raisin and plenty of oaky richness. European expressions however can be more savoury and tend towards flavours of olive, black cherry and pepper. Both are equally delicious, and are simply a matter of taste! Fun Fact: There are many faces to Shiraz, but typically when grown in a cooler area, it will display more lavender and peppery notes. Whereas when from a warm climate, more juicy, even jammy fruit.

Pairing guide
A good bottle of boldly-flavoured Shiraz is always going to be a real crowd pleaser down under, and this gorgeous creation from Gudilly winery is truly no exception. All your BBQ favourites will work well here - lamb chops, racks of ribs, homemade burgers and blackened chicken thighs will hit the spot perfectly, and it’s also excellent with homemade beef or lamb kebabs with a smoky paprika or harissa rub. Rich bean stews, Mexican mole sauces, bolognese and other ragu dishes are also never a bad idea with a Shiraz of this quality. Delicious!

Wine region

Adelaide, Australia
In one breath – Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Plains, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Coonawarra, Currency Creek, Eden Valley, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale, Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Riverland, Robe, Southern Fleurieu, Southern Flinders Ranges, and Wrattonbully. Did we miss any?
The Adelaide wine region is wide and varied when it comes to terroir. From the coastal regions of Limestone Coast and McLaren Vale, to the warmer inland valleys of Barossa and Eden, to the flats of Langhorne Creek. The region is probably best known for Shiraz, Grenache and Cab Sav in reds, and Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay in white. As a result, wines labelled with only Adelaide will have a myriad of flavours, but you can count on it being delicious!
