Details
This gorgeous Pinot Noir comes from the historic Goona Warra Vineyard in Sunbury and shows all the good things we love about Pinot; aromas of sweet red fruit compote and mushrooms, spice and forest floor, with a juicy palate and a meaty mouthful from relatively high alcohol - all in balance though! To finish there’s tang and minerality and lingering furry tannins. Delicious.
Sunbury, former home to the legendary 'Sunbury Rock Festival,' with acts like Queen, Deep Purple and AC/DC! It was the Australian Woodstock of the '70s. Although reboot festivals are a work in progress, there's no stopping the spectacular growth of this historic wine region. This region's heart is Goona Warra Vineyard, boasting a stunning amphitheatre setting, blue stone halls, and downright impressive wines. A half-hour trip on the V/Line, heading north from Melbourne, is the Geographic Indication of Sunbury and Goona Warra Vineyard. This Sunbury classification was granted in 1998, but Goona Warra Vineyard's beginnings date back to 1863, making it one of Victoria's oldest wine regions. So best not to confuse it with the Coonawarra region of SA. Did you know, in the local indigenous dialect, 'Goona Warra' means 'resting place of the swan'? Nestled in the foothills of Macedon Ranges, Sunbury is often considered the gateway wine region, but stop for a moment, and you'll begin to appreciate the distinctive mountainous landscape. For instance, being only 20km from the ocean, Sunbury's microclimate sees the dual benefit of a consistent maritime climate; 400 m elevation creates a big range between day and night temperatures, ideal for fussy varieties like Pinot Noir. Goona Warra's repertoire also includes estate-grown Chardonnay, Roussanne, and Cabernet Franc, a huge win for food and wine pairing fanatics.

Pairing guide
Goona Warra has hit the sweet spot again with this silky Pinot Noir, which offers some seriously delicious food pairing possibilities for our community of gastronauts. It’s particularly good with duck and lamb dishes - served pink with a rich gravy, for extra points. Stews, dishes featuring root vegetables and portobello mushrooms, bitter greens like kale and broccoli, and all kinds of tomato-based sauces and casseroles will provide pairing perfection every time.
