Details
Greenock, the town closest to the original Golden Amrita vineyard, is Gaelic for 'sunny hill', so why not call this big-boned Barossan Shiraz Sunshine Hill? A deep, saturated purple colour, this is red wine with the volume turned up real high. It tastes of fresh plums, cooked plums, and chocolate, with a seriously luscious rich palate that goes on for days.

Amrita is an ancient Indian word meaning 'nectar of the gods', and it's an excellent name for a wine business devoted to super luscious Barossa Valley reds. Golden Amrita is owned by the Liu family, who are famous for the aged Pu’er tea from Yunnan Province and see plenty of parallels between making great wine and sublime tea To help make their wine dreams a reality, the Liu family bought an established Shiraz vineyard in Greenock, on the western side of the Barossa and then enlisted one of Australia's few winemaking Masters of Wine, Kym Milne MW. With this dream combo of old vines and a 40-year Australian winemaking veteran, it's probably unsurprising that the hedonistic Barossan reds that have now come out from Golden Amrita are so damn good.

Pairing guide
This Shiraz from Golden Amrita is a fantastic example of everything we love about Australia’s signature grape varietal - it’s got deeply delicious fruit flavours, plenty of body, and a structure that definitely makes its presence known on the palate. Ideal for barbecues, great for big family dinners, and equally fantastic for relaxing with in the evening, we love pairing this wine with chargrilled beef and lamb, homemade burgers, sausage sandwiches, and meaty pies. Brisket, and other USA-style cook-out favourites, will work very nicely. It’s also a good wine for chilli con carne (or a veggie alternative), eggplant fattoush, kofta, and roasted or barbecued Mediterranean vegetables.
