Details
This is top real estate for Dolcetto to be grown on - some fruit from the famed area of Barbaresco no less, renowned for incredible Nebbiolo. With no oak treatment, this wine is popping with blueberry, cranberry and electric violets. The palate is mid-weight, snappy acidity and textured just enough to satisfy. Amazing expression of Dolcetto, with dangerous levels of drinkability!
A native of Barbaresco (a small, prestigious region of Piedmont in north-western Italy), Giuseppe Cortese began a lifelong passion for wine by working with his father Giacomo in the family business. Before running his own winery, Giuseppe served as cellar master and vineyard manager for some of Piedmont’s most iconic wineries. During this time, he gained invaluable knowledge of the local grape varieties and the individual vineyard plots that are scattered around the area. Today, Cortese is the typical small, family-owned winery, which is run by Giuseppe’s children: Pier Carlo and Tiziana. Giuseppe’s son-in-law Gabriele has also joined them in the family business. Attentive, rigorous care of the estate’s vineyards, strict selection of the best grape bunches, a traditional approach to winemaking and a gentle hand with modern techniques are the ingredients that define the unmistakable personality and unique identity of Cortese’s wines. Their wines are brilliant and elegant, the perfect result of a unique love for this land.

Pairing guide
Dolcetto is arguably one of the most versatile red wine varietals to come out of Italy, and while it’s normally a meat-lover’s dream of a wine, it’s also well-suited to plenty of veggie numbers and vegan specialties, too. It’s a gorgeous red to pair with vegan stews, rich and sumptuous tomato ragus, and would make a great choice for a spaghetti bolognese or similar made from plant-based mince. This wine is also going to pair well with meat-free pizzas, lentil dishes, veggie lasagne, and vegetable-stuffed ravioli.

Piedmont, Italy
The Piedmont wine region in Italy is a magical place known for producing world-class wines. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south, and it is characterized by rolling hills and a diverse landscape. The climate in Piedmont is generally cool and wet, with warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. This climate is well-suited to grape growing offering slow and steady ripening conditions which lead to high-quality and expressive wines. Piedmont is most praised for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barbera and Dolcetto are other celebrated reds of the region, and as for its white wines, Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and the rare Nascetta. Piedmont is also famous for its flavorful truffles, often used in local dishes, and pair beautiful with its regional wines.
