Details
Tempranillo is slowly becoming more and more plentiful in South Australia, and this liitle vineyard in the southern Adelaide Hills gives us a wine that offers punchy aromas of raspberry, red cherries and plum interwoven with notes of rose petals and coffee grounds. Medium-bodied and lingering, it is framed by savoury tannins that highlight the juicy fruit.

In 1975, Geoff Hardy joined his family's wine business, Thomas Hardy & Son. He furthered his expertise by completing his wine production diploma in 1977. In 1980, Geoff, alongside fellow viticulturist Ian Leask, acquired a vineyard in McLaren Vale. Recognising the potential for cultivating cool climate grapes, Geoff discovered the ideal location in the Adelaide Hills. In 1987, he planted the vineyard and named it K1, signifying its status as the first commercial vineyard in the Kuitpo region in Adelaide Hills. K1 Wines is led by fifth and sixth gen descendants of Thomas Hardy, and it carries on the enduring family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture. Guided by a passion for innovation, a commitment to sustainability, and a deep appreciation for the unique Australian terroir. In 2004, Geoff introduced the handcrafted labels - Geoff Hardy and GMH - Representing yet another chapter in the family's wine ventures. These wines are history in the making!

Pairing guide
Make no mistake, we love a good bottle of Tempranillo here at Good Pair Days. This release from the ever-fascinating Geoff Hardy winery ticks all the right boxes, and provides a fantastic flavour profile for pairing with spicy dark meats, barbecue classics and Spanish or Tex-Mex flavours alike. Fajitas, paella, chorizo, mole sauces, chilli con carne and bean and lentil casseroles will all pair brilliantly here. It’s also excellent with corn and polenta dishes, mature cheddar cheese and anything with a hearty addition of smoked paprika.

Wine region
Adelaide Hills, Australia
The Adelaide Hills wine region, located in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges of South Australia is characterised by its high altitude, cool climate, and diverse soils, which all contribute to the unique terroir that produces elegant, complex, and expressive wines. The region's altitude ranges from 400 to 700 meters above sea level, creating a cooler climate than other wine regions in South Australia. The cool temperatures slow down the ripening process of the grapes, resulting in wines with high acidity, delicate aromatics, and elegant flavours. Top sub-regions are Lenswood, Piccadilly Valley, and Basket Range, each with unique microclimates and diverse soil types that produce singular wine styles, the highlights are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and a whole lot more!
