Details
The Klostersatz vineyard is one of the oldest in the Wachau region and can trace its roots back to the old Bavarian and Salzburg monasteries. With such a legacy, no one should be surprised that this brilliant Grüner Veltliner is such a superstar - as a Federspiel style it leads to the more fresh and frisky end of the Grüner spectrum but it's also wildly fruity - apples, lime curd, fresh peaches, it's a bowl of ripe fruits washed basking in an alpine stream.

Truly one of Austria's most iconic producers, the giant bottles of F.X. Pichler Riesling & Grüner are benchmarks of what the stunning slopes of the Wachau region can deliver. The wine world often likes to use the word 'minerally' to describe any white wines, but if you want an example of what a super pure wine tastes like, these crystalline whites are near perfect. Unquestionably, the renowned old vineyards on the side of the Danube are a big part of the story at F.X. Pichler, but at every step, this is winemaking with no compromise. Grapes are picked in multi-stages to get perfect ripeness, and the long, slow maturation in traditional large oak barrels all adds up to sublime expressions of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Oh yes, this is the top top shelf of Austrian white wine!

Pairing guide
Our love of a great Grüner Veltliner is no secret, and this stunningly crisp and bright white from F.X. Pichler couldn’t be more to our liking. It’s a gorgeous wine for pairing with all kinds of Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and pan-Asian dishes, especially if prepared with plenty of ginger, coconut, coriander and chilli. Crisp green salad, barbecued prawns and other seafood, and simple chicken dishes with pesto will also hit the spot.

Wachau, Austria
The Wachau is a picturesque wine region situated along the Danube River in Austria, renowned for producing some of the world's finest white wines. The region is known for its steep terraced vineyards and unique microclimates, which allow for the cultivation of grape varietals like Grüner Veltliner and Riesling which exhibit a distinctive minerality and acidity. The Wachau is divided into three sub-regions, each with its own soil types, wine styles, and characteristics. Visitors can take a scenic drive along the river and stop at local wineries for tastings, or explore charming towns and historic landmarks that dot the landscape. The region is also known for its culinary delights, with local specialities like Wachauer Marillenknödel (apricot dumplings) and hearty regional dishes that pair perfectly with the area's world-class wines.
