Details
The prettiness wine in the room, this effortless Tassie Pinot Noir is a showcase for the deft handiwork of winemaker Thomas New and a reminder that Tasmania is the Pinot promised land. Drawn from grapes in the Derwent Valley, this light/medium-bodied red has ripe blueberry and raspberry fruit, a little mulchy spicy bit on the edges and tomato juice. Graceful and yet surprisingly powerful, it's a triumphant Pinot.
Tasmania so often feels like a hidden corner of the Aussie wine world, but one with all sorts of unknown delights and lush artisan tastes, and the Future Perfect Wines are a great case in point. Made by the founder of Queensland lofi label La Petit Mort, who upped his life from QLD and moved to Tasvegas in search of great Pinot. Now with his own 'pretty humble' microwinery in Hobart, Thomas works with a handful of growers and sites in Southern Tasmania and the Tamar Valley to make what he calls 'an honest expression of Tasmanian wines. Thomas' gorgeous Pinot Noir wines are the star here, but don't miss the crystalline Riesling and a super surprising spicy Shiraz as well.

Pairing guide
Crafted from grapes grown in the Upper Derwent Valley, this Tassie Pinot Noir is a clear indicator of just how strong the island’s wine scene is right now. When it comes to food pairing, this versatile red really does have you covered; it’s great with beef steak, shoulder of lamb, grilled chicken thighs with Mediterranean vegetables, tagine and other spiced stews, and roasted beetroot and sweet potato dishes. It’s also great with eggplant casserole, roast poultry (especially duck), and dishes making a star ingredient of butter beans, cannellini beans and puy lentils. What’s not to love?

The top wine styles produced in Southern Tasmania include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. The most notable sub-regions within Southern Tasmania include the Coal River Valley, Derwent Valley, and Huon Valley.
